Gil & Rozeela tied the knot last summer at Vancouver’s Stanley Park Pavilion. We’d shot there before and like the previous times the ceremony took place on the lawn outside. This was the first time we’d seen the alter positioned on the steps though and I have to say it was a much better setup in my mind!

The day began at the Westin Bayshore hotel in downtown Vancouver. The couple each had their own rooms and got ready there with the various members of the bridal party. It’s a really nice hotel if you haven’t been there before and well worth considering if you’re looking for a place to get ready on your wedding day!

After the ceremony we took the bridal party off for some photos in the immediate vicinity of the Pavilion. We didn’t have much time before the reception began but I think we did really well with the time we did have and arrived back in plenty of time for dinner and dancing.

Personally, I hadn’t been to Monk McQueens before, as a patron or photographer. I think Elora might have been once but it was a while ago so really this was a new venue for both of us. It really is the perfect setting, right on the water with a Vancouver skyline opposite. The fact that it was a red hot sunny day only added to the allure of this place.

The ceremony was out on the deck in the full sun. I think everybody struggled a little bit with the heat and brightness but it must have been even harder for Keith and Erin who had the pressure of a wedding ceremony on top of that. If the pressure got to them at all, it didn’t show. The ceremony was lovely and the couple did an awesome job! I have to say though, I think everyone was excited to get indoors at the end of it!

Monk McQueens is the perfect spot for a wedding reception. The room upstairs is very spacious and can accommodate a lot of guests. It’s perfect for the photographers too as there is plenty of room to move around and vary the angles. Hopefully somebody will book their wedding there this year and we will get to return!

We’d never been to Cedar View Estates in Pemberton before but I sure hope we’ll be going back! What a phenomenal place it was! A beautiful log cabin style house surrounded by farmland was the backdrop for a gorgeous wedding ceremony and reception.

Brian & Kasia are such a fun couple and it was a real pleasure to work with them both! We didn’t meet them for an engagement session so when we arrived at Brock House on the wedding day we were meeting for the first time. Right away we felt like old friends and had such a laugh as the evening progressed.

We had some time before the ceremony to capture some set-up and getting ready shots. The ceremony itself was out on the lawn under the big shady tree, the usual spot! It was such a lovely evening, warm with a gentle breeze coming off the ocean. This wonderful weather held up all night and the sunset provided a spectacular backdrop for the dinner and speeches.

Mike & Magali held their wedding ceremony at the Canadian Memorial United Church in Vancouver. Last time we were there the entire building was surrounded by scaffolding so it was nice to see the church in all it’s glory! It was a lovely sunny day and the ceremony was beautiful.

When it was over we took some family shots outside before heading off to Stanley Park to spend some time with the bridal party. I remember it was pretty windy out at the Brockton Point lighthouse so we had some fun with the veil and of course the ladies’ hair!

The day ended at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club, which if you haven’t been before, is a fabulous venue out in Richmond. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere generated by family, friends and party games was electric!

The Chapel at Queen Elizabeth Park is one of our favourite places to shoot and even though it was raining on and off on Dan & Laura’s wedding day, we were very excited to be there! A whole bunch of the family was from England so that was especially fun for me (Paul)! I got to talk about football with somebody who was picturing an oval shaped ball and heavily padded players… we were talking about proper football! Shame they supported Wolves but somebody has to I suppose.

Anyway, back to the wedding day! The rain didn’t spoil anything and like I said earlier, it was only on and off. The ceremony was beautiful as always and the lighting was great for the garden shots afterwards.

The couple held their reception at the University Golf Club out by UBC. The food was awesome, thank you guys, and the speeches very touching. I didn’t get to try the cake but it looked really good too. That’s the problem for us wedding photographers, we always seem to leave before the cake gets divvied out! What flavour was it…?

July saw us make our first visit to the West Coast Wilderness Lodge on the Sunshine Coast. We’ve photographed on the Sunshine Coast before but never that far north. What a beautiful part of the World! It’s about a 3 hour drive (with the added bonus of a ferry ride!) from Vancouver and there isn’t much else out there! The views were stunning and the weather was hot and sunny. Most of the shoot happened at the lodge itself but we were able to get down to the water for a few shots after the ceremony.

We visited a few different locations on Isaac & Claire’s wedding day. We began at Claire’s parent’s house for some getting ready shots of the girls. Then it was on to Queen Elizabeth Park to meet the guys. Due to logistical reasons, the couple had decided to take their family pictures and couple shots before the ceremony. So, we set up a “first look” moment for them. It went perfectly and was very emotional for all involved.

Once we’d concluded our shoot in Queen Elizabeth Park we moved on to Granville Island for the couple shots. A couple of groomsmen came along for the ride so we managed to get some shots with them too before time ran out! Brock House was next for the ceremony and reception. It was a wonderful evening with some really great people. The weather was very cooperative for the whole day although it looked like we would have rain first thing in the morning!

Here are some of our favourite shots from the day! I know there’s a lot but it was really difficult to choose just a few! It’s like going to a restaurant and trying to pick one dessert from 3 possible choices. Just have them all, right?

Back in June we shot our first wedding at Van Dusen Gardens this year for Phil & Cindy. The weather was a little overcast at first which is just how we like it but the sunshine soon came out once the ceremony was over. The reception was also at Van Dusen Gardens in the restaurant. Very nice food, I have to say, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit there!
